You can blame it on Beyonce’s butt-wiggling boogie or Pippa Middleton’s dress at a certain wedding, but buttock augmentations are on the rise. The operation involves placing semi-solid implants on the high side of the buttocks, behind the gluteal muscle, creating a fuller, rounder shape.
Recovery usually takes around two weeks after the operation, a lengthy period of time compared to other procedures, due to the fact that thick gluteal muscles are involved. Complications are more likely to increase along with implant size, so it’s best to veer towards the conservative side of augmentation.

When you improve the shape of the nose you improve and rebalance the whole of the face.
But did you also know the operation can also improve one’s breathing? Combined with septoplasty, or sinus surgery, a Rhinoplasty procedure can do just that.
One of the most commonly performed facial cosmetic surgery procedures is rhinoplasty. Rhinoplasty can improve the tip of the nose and its projection, remove the hump and change the length as well as the overall shape of the nose.
And it’s nice to know that most rhinoplasty procedures can be performed as day surgery, requiring as little as 10 days off work.

After the recent breast implant scandal, plastic surgeons are looking at alternatives. Using a woman’s fat stores for breast enlargements is one of those.
But is this really a good alternative?
The procedure, known as ‘fat grafting’, uses fat from a person’s thighs, stomach or buttocks and implants it in the breast.
Dr Kourosh Tavakoli, a Sydney plastic surgeon specialising in breast augmentation opposes the technique. I believe “Fat grafting for breasts is still in its infancy, and has too many disadvantages over implants,” Tavakoli says.

Did you know?
It’s unfortunately, but did you know that any medical doctor with a basic medical degree can perform cosmetic surgery in Australia?
In fact Australian law allows any doctor, even your family GP, without having undergone formal surgical training to call themselves “cosmetic surgeons”.
Dr Tavakoli has trained exclusively in Cosmetic & Plastic Surgery under the auspices of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons, which is the only statutory recognized body for training of plastic surgeons in Australia.

Sydney Plastic Surgeon Dr Kourosh Tavakoli explains what you can expect before, during and after a rhinoplasty procedure.
Originating from the greek Rhinos meaning ‘nose’ and Plassein meaning ‘to shape’, rhinoplasty refers to cosmetic surgery of the nose and is one of the most common of all plastic surgery operations. in fact, Rhinoplasty was among the first cosmetic plastic surgery operations ever performed, way back in 1898. the current australian trend in rhinoplasty is all about the ‘natural’ look. however, it is highly individualised surgery and you should discuss your individual desires with your chosen surgeon during consultation.

In the light of the recent controversy in the media regarding the faulty French breast implant manufacturer PIP, I would like to go on record as saying that I have NEVER used these implants as I had suspected their poor quality as early as 2005. Majority of my patients have had the American made Allergan-McGhan or Mentor implants.
Unfortunately there are 4000 Australian women out there with the PIP implants. It is my firm belief as an Breast Augmentation expert that these faulty implants need to be replaced soon as their risk of rupture is too high for a medical grade prostheses.
